Maksim Chmerkovskiy helps abused children through dance

Celebrities have a unique opportunity to give back to the community as no other group of people can. It is nice to be able to highlight the great efforts by some of those celebrities who choose to help children overcome issues that they may not have otherwise been able to overcome. One such person is Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Maks is one of the dance pros from Dancing with the Stars. He is now giving his time to teach another kind of star about dancing.

Chmerkovskiy recently joined Childhelp, a group devoted to helping abused children overcome the negative lives they were forced to live. The center gives children a creative outlet for the anger, fear, and distrust that they feel as a result of abuse. The children who visit the center make paintings in order to express themselves. The process eventually leads these torn children in a more positive direction so that they can live a fuller and happier life as a human being rather than simply a victim of their past.

Maks freely devotes his time to teach children the art of dance. Dance is a therapeutic method to aid the children in rebuilding self-esteem. These are children who were made victims of horrendous crimes such as sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and verbal abuse. Abuse to any person is horrific, but when it happens to a child, it is even more devastating because children are less able to defend themselves from the perpetrator. Hats off to Maksim Chmerkovskiy, for giving from his heart to our battered and lost children, the future of America. Your work makes a difference that counts.
