Kim Richards - Another Child Star Fallen

A blog that showcases the downfall of child stars who have gone wrong used to be something I did on a regular basis. I felt bad for those people and hoped to shed some light on a very ugly part of the Hollywood scene, especially in the late sixties and early seventies. That focus turned from that to childhood abuse and then to homelessness. These are all passions of mine and for my own reasons. Unfortunately, another child star that I “grew up with” is in deep distress. Her name is Kim Richards and it is sad for me to see her downfall in recent years.

For many fans, Kim is the reason they started watching RealHousewives of Beverly Hills. She was someone, so they thought, that they could connect with and they just wanted to see how well she made out after she grew up. Fans rallied around her when they realized that she had a problem that many actors develop, she was an alcoholic and by the end of the first season, it was painfully clear that she needed help.

By the end of the second season, Kim was in even greater distress and fans rallied behind her once more, except this time they were ready to see her get well and stop blaming others for her problem. By the third season, she went into rehab and appeared to be more clear minded than ever before, a welcome relief from seeing the disheveled and downright mean person that we all witnessed in season two, when Brandi Glanville came on the scene. Season four seemed inconsequential for the once Disney actor, but that would all change when she joined forces with Glanville and the two were “DeflectiveDenial Queens” who enabled each other and threatened to lie about other cast members families in order to keep the focus off of their own bad behavior.

It was a shameful display in season five with Kim denying that she was drinking. It was, by far, the most difficult season to watch as Kim imploded and truly seemed to believe that the audience would not pick up on the fact that she was clearly using something to ease whatever pain she was feeling. Whether fortunate or unfortunate, Kim was arrested soon after the last RHOBH aired. It was a particularly ugly show, and Kim made more unfounded suggestions, not only about Harry Hamlin who is not on the show, but then alleged that there was some secret reason that her niece deserved the bite that she received from Kim’s dog, Kingsley. God knows that Kingsley never bit anyone before that incident. Oh wait… he did.

Now Kim will appear on the Dr. Phil show to explain herself. It is unlikely that Dr. Phil will let her get away with dodging the subject and placing blame on everything and everyone around her without accepting responsibility for her actions. That is the hope of fans who want to see Kim get well. Hopefully, Kim will get the help that she needs and finally come to realize that her choices are all on herself. I lost respect for her when she blamed her brother-in-law for calling her out when he saw his wife crying and was upset about it. That’s what husbands are supposed to do, protect their wives.

In any case, Kim Richards needs serious help outside the realm of a reality show that puts it all out there for the world to see. Alcoholism and drug addiction are serious problems in the United States and reality shows only want to capitalize on it rather than actually help the person who they put on display. Kim needs long-term help and many fans believe there is something far greater in Kim’s mind than the addiction.

Could there be an underlying condition that makes Kim act out? For instance, could she actually have bipolar, a condition that cannot be cured, but can be managed? If there is a mental condition that exists, it is time for her and the family to find out and for her to be treated for that as well as the addiction. The truth is, fans want to see Kim get well, no one wishes ill for her. They just don’t want to watch it happen on the show, not anyone with any sensitivity to the issue, that is.
